Southern Veggie Dinner

Sure, I love to bake pie.  And I make some pretty awesome pie.

But some nights, you just want a hearty, healthy, gluten-free and vegetarian dinner.  This is one I made the other night, and you can expect to see dinners like this from Butterpat...

Molasses blackeyed peas and collard greens will be staples, and of course so will my delicious honey cornbread (which is naturally gluten-free).  Look for the copper pennies on special - that's carrots cooked with onions and garlic in a maple-mustard cider vinegar sauce.

Of course there'll still be pie for dessert if you have any room left!

(Native) American Pie

I've got a new blog project called World Piece, in which I plan to create a pie in honor of every country in the world.  I started out at home with American Pie - but it's not what you think!

That's buffalo meat, two kinds of beans, butternut squash, and a richly spiced coffee gravy in a buttery cornmeal crust.  Click over here for the recipe, or save yourself the trouble and make a pledge to my Kickstarter project so I can make one for you!

I Can't Help Falling In Love with Elvis Pie.

I've just created the most delicious pie in all my years of baking.  I call it Elvis Pie.  Inspired by my own homemade bacon, cured with maple, brown sugar, and cloves, plus the famous fried sandwiches that killed the King, I set out to create something epic.

I succeeded.

That right there is a bacony graham cracker crust with a layer of peanut butter cream sweetened with honey and brown sugar, topped off with fresh sliced bananas, then a lucious vanilla custard, topped off with bacon-vanilla whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs, chopped chocolate, and of course, the sweet home-cured bacon.

I can't wait to share this with the world.
