And I make some pretty awesome pie.<br />
<br />
But some nights, you just want a hearty, healthy, gluten-free and vegetarian dinner. This is one I made the other night, and you can expect to see dinners like this from Butterpat...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrRwdZYoFROxVp9WgJ2M_04wdW0z5ArkD0Ct_61Ql8n-oQ1wMuzWJpoZ1FazFaf6pqq_NKdptYg92dmaqiXSjoLkB9DODsCd0tt3PW5-Tni2PD8RjGu53o6-f7kV6hFXHlB9g2lMbRrrU/s1600/P3070004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrRwdZYoFROxVp9WgJ2M_04wdW0z5ArkD0Ct_61Ql8n-oQ1wMuzWJpoZ1FazFaf6pqq_NKdptYg92dmaqiXSjoLkB9DODsCd0tt3PW5-Tni2PD8RjGu53o6-f7kV6hFXHlB9g2lMbRrrU/s400/P3070004.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Molasses blackeyed peas and collard greens will be staples, and of course so will my delicious honey cornbread (which is naturally gluten-free). Look for the copper pennies on special - that's carrots cooked with onions and garlic in a maple-mustard cider vinegar sauce.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Of course there'll still be pie for dessert if you have any room left!</div>Butterpathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11646622821428204729noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6297951586293997827.post-14858147838479408392011-03-06T16:12:00.000-08:002011-03-06T16:12:56.937-08:00(Native) American PieI've got a new blog project called <a href="http://globalpie.blogspot.com/">World Piece</a>, in which I plan to create a pie in honor of every country in the world. I started out at home with American Pie - but it's not what you think!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNX1FPtmiIf3hXpLPuMBFJdzdLE94NWwQ3Dnwgdu-LOvPhwJxsWUEVi9DwHTS3oB3ILb_Q0M3WDWOfW_sx-jncuh3RDkMeVljekWoUOD_qvl7DVNdRoF8m0WRpXuYaDmz1bK9752pj9sc/s1600/P2240024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNX1FPtmiIf3hXpLPuMBFJdzdLE94NWwQ3Dnwgdu-LOvPhwJxsWUEVi9DwHTS3oB3ILb_Q0M3WDWOfW_sx-jncuh3RDkMeVljekWoUOD_qvl7DVNdRoF8m0WRpXuYaDmz1bK9752pj9sc/s400/P2240024.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
That's buffalo meat, two kinds of beans, butternut squash, and a richly spiced coffee gravy in a buttery cornmeal crust. Click over here for the <a href="http://globalpie.blogspot.com/2011/03/native-american-pie.html">recipe</a>, or save yourself the trouble and make a pledge to <a href="http://kck.st/g2mEgt">my Kickstarter project</a> so I can make one for you!Butterpathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11646622821428204729noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6297951586293997827.post-57363797222697676952011-02-25T20:24:00.000-08:002011-02-25T20:25:15.900-08:00I Can't Help Falling In Love with Elvis Pie.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilb430tITEsm9HICxJmiG_c02ovCVjMHM7YnV7WvtDes_42Y9hi3kOm3vHzttWVH2sIGSBS2N-hGKDqdT-73F9UnUQwT2yy5fnRRC4lanpSASxl3Oy6lmI28sjJ9KLlgxbS502uIx2Rkg/s1600/ep1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilb430tITEsm9HICxJmiG_c02ovCVjMHM7YnV7WvtDes_42Y9hi3kOm3vHzttWVH2sIGSBS2N-hGKDqdT-73F9UnUQwT2yy5fnRRC4lanpSASxl3Oy6lmI28sjJ9KLlgxbS502uIx2Rkg/s400/ep1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I've just created the most delicious pie in all my years of baking. I call it Elvis Pie. Inspired by my own homemade bacon, cured with maple, brown sugar, and cloves, plus the famous fried sandwiches that killed the King, I set out to create something epic.<br />
<br />
I succeeded.<br />
<br />
That right there is a bacony graham cracker crust with a layer of peanut butter cream sweetened with honey and brown sugar, topped off with fresh sliced bananas, then a lucious vanilla custard, topped off with bacon-vanilla whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs, chopped chocolate, and of course, the sweet home-cured bacon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzOYzEwZ0ka-Be11OhdB4uS_GM55l_vlxHNK_87_kuBRLo1QliSNWzjztdlSpe3mTAzWfJIkmuXojeyIN7vjR4GfZU7d8I0IXUBVyF1VkMu5NLUe3Mz8yz_mOFjlPUf8dnMdkxB8ONpRs/s1600/ep2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzOYzEwZ0ka-Be11OhdB4uS_GM55l_vlxHNK_87_kuBRLo1QliSNWzjztdlSpe3mTAzWfJIkmuXojeyIN7vjR4GfZU7d8I0IXUBVyF1VkMu5NLUe3Mz8yz_mOFjlPUf8dnMdkxB8ONpRs/s400/ep2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I can't wait to share this with the world.Butterpathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11646622821428204729noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6297951586293997827.post-34280061498572240922011-02-19T10:25:00.000-08:002011-02-19T10:25:08.807-08:00Free pie pops TODAY!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbYCC-V3zDFFOXDU4Ytgg0YfTnZlCXITcEAmAEHpA9Zl2L4ggiO3e8Dt_F-K-cnmeBaGsadHHWlgEDn05O78G1fxopCY2bZNITfH2fNknZ2vcM8fcSpcSPsu_70zbdVHpFeiT7idZXVDY/s1600/DSCN1238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbYCC-V3zDFFOXDU4Ytgg0YfTnZlCXITcEAmAEHpA9Zl2L4ggiO3e8Dt_F-K-cnmeBaGsadHHWlgEDn05O78G1fxopCY2bZNITfH2fNknZ2vcM8fcSpcSPsu_70zbdVHpFeiT7idZXVDY/s400/DSCN1238.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>So I stayed up late last night and got up early this morning to bake up about a hundred of these beautiful pie pops. Half are filled with my own homemade blackberry jam (see pic!) and the other half with a lucious peanut butter-banana-brown sugar mix.<br />
<br />
So come on down to Tom McCall Waterfront Park today from about 11:30 onward and look for me at the west end of the Hawthorne Bridge, or over at Salmon St. Springs. I'll be there until I've given all of these babies away.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Did I mention they're FREE? <br />
<br />
Of course, there's always a catch. I'm doing this to promote my <a href="http://kck.st/g2mEgt">Kickstarter project</a> to raise funds for my food cart. So if you like my pie and want more, enjoy the free pie pop and go pay it forward with a pledge. You get all kinds of rewards, including pie, when you pledge!<br />
<br />
The weather's gorgeous today, by the way! See you at the waterfront!Butterpathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11646622821428204729noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6297951586293997827.post-14192363163743192152011-02-18T10:56:00.000-08:002011-02-18T10:56:21.233-08:00Want some free pie?I'm busy baking today, creating over 100 pie pops to give away for <b><u>free</u></b> tomorrow! I'll be down on the waterfront (near the west end of the Hawthorne Bridge and/or near the Salmon St. Springs) around 11 a.m. and I'll stay until I've given away all the pie pops.<div><br />
</div><div>What's a pie pop? Well, it's a fun way to sample pie in one or two bites. It looks like a lollipop - it's a round bite of pie on a stick - but it's made from my delicious butter-flaky pie crust and a dollop of filling in the middle!</div><div><br />
</div><div>Tomorrow, look for two flavors: </div><div><ul><li>Memphis-style <b>peanut butter and banana</b> (sweetened with local honey)</li>
<li>Northwest <b>blackberry jam</b> (homemade jam from blackberries I picked myself last summer)</li>
</ul><div>I'll also be handing out cards promoting my Kickstarter project. Make a pledge today at the link to your right, under the lucious-looking maple bacon cream pie. Thanks for your support, and I'll see you at the waterfront!</div></div>Butterpathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11646622821428204729noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6297951586293997827.post-79739563326481111702011-02-13T08:15:00.000-08:002011-02-13T14:27:29.452-08:00Kickstarter!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXujbj7zZEpfGpv_7KGmWL69OkTqwNUknoGFne_ZlBH-Y9mr0tmf5uwvD6Ex-iy1CiUrnQ5WlDUOlaBc5TAyzaL8GyI7bRsWrfAtlLTMVKAswbd5g8TRCDdXFbsYgjNgD6dnyLIU1gWBY/s1600/5815_116449907824_524982824_2216250_7198135_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXujbj7zZEpfGpv_7KGmWL69OkTqwNUknoGFne_ZlBH-Y9mr0tmf5uwvD6Ex-iy1CiUrnQ5WlDUOlaBc5TAyzaL8GyI7bRsWrfAtlLTMVKAswbd5g8TRCDdXFbsYgjNgD6dnyLIU1gWBY/s200/5815_116449907824_524982824_2216250_7198135_n.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Oh wow, it's really happening... this morning, I launched our Kickstarter page! <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/piecycle/butterpat-southern-food-with-an-oregonian-twist">Go check it out!</a><br />
<br />
What this means is that I now have until the morning of April 4 - that's 49 days - to raise $15,000. WHEW! Kickstarter and Amazon take about 10% of that for processing, and I'll use the remaining $13,500 or so to purchase and outfit the food cart that will become BUTTERPAT! (Some of the money will also go toward insurance, licensing, and other startup costs.)<br />
<br />
So drop by the Kickstarter page. There's a cool video in which you get to see me being a total dork while enjoying a sexy B. B. King blues number and some delectable food photos from my kitchen. There are also some pretty awesome rewards for my backers.<br />
